Reflection
I wrote my Narrative essay about my lacrosse career, specifically the time when I didn’t make the A team and had to work incredibly hard to make the team the next year. This was a very important personal journey because it taught me that I could achieve anything I really put my mind to and worked hard for. In the essay I explained how I practiced lacrosse and worked out everyday so that I could get better and make the team the following year. I also expressed my frustration with the team I did make which was the B team where everyone got equal playing time and anyone could join the team. This team was incredibly unsuccessful and I became discouraged from lacrosse. I set a goal in my mind to make the A team and never play on a recreational team again. With hard work and a stronger mentality I was able to achieve that goal in just a year. I remixed my essay by creating a series of fake Instagram posts from my past self that followed my lacrosse journey. I made 12 posts that spanned over a year. The first were set to be when I was just starting lacrosse, I talked about being nervous for the tryouts and expressing my excitement for starting lacrosse. The next post is supposed to be right before my first tryout for the A team. It is easy to infer that I am disappointed with the results of the tryouts, which I really was. All of these posts and captions are entirely accurate to my mindset and how I felt as well. The next set of posts are during the time when I was working out before school and practicing lacrosse after school. I mention how early the workouts were and how dedicated I was, “6am workout before school aint nothing, y’all will be surprised come spring. STUDENT ATHLETE” while I was working out at 6 am I was not nearly this cocky about it. The next two posts came on the day of my second tryout for the A team, one year after the horrible first tryout and season with the B team. One post came before the tryout where I told all my followers how I was nervous but confident in my hard work. The second post from the tryout came after the tryout was over and I talked about my conversation with the coach of the A team. I also explained how my hard work had finally paid off. The last post is on the first day of A team practice, I talk about how I am ready for the upcoming season. This is a good remix because in the fake Instagram posts I tell the same story that I told in my essay as well as communicating the main point of my essay which was that with hard work and the right mindset anything is possible. I liked the idea of doing fake Instagram posts because it is creative and I don’t think many other people will do it. As the great Ms. Crowell has said, the digital world is infinite and I think I used it well.
